Lovable Rescue Mutts

Adopting a rescue dog means welcoming a companion with a history and personality all their own. Whether they’re a Great Pyrenees mix, Shepherd, Husky, Cattle Dog, Mexican street dog, or any of the many wonderful mixes from Central Oregon rescues, these dogs often come with challenges. Issues like anxiety, struggles with other dogs, resource guarding, leash reactivity, etc.

With training, your dog can grow into a well-socialized, well-mannered companion. Training helps your dog feel ready to handle any situation—whether it’s with other dogs, people, or in new places. The skills we teach your rescue dog make life easier at home and also ensure your dog will be welcome wherever you go. It is important that your dog is safe, even if something unexpected happens to you.

A well-trained rescue dog is a happy rescue dog. And a happy rescue dog leads to a peaceful home for everyone!

Training for Anxious Rescue Dogs & Mixed Breeds

From nervous street dogs to misunderstood big mutts, we help rescue dogs build confidence and thrive in their new homes. Rescue dogs often come to us as early as 6 months old, but some need training later in life—especially if their behavior shifts due to injury, a new dog in the home, or past trauma surfacing in new ways.

Even at 5 years old, training can completely transform your relationship with your dog.

You might feel like your dog will never change, but we can help. We see your heart in choosing to adopt, and we’re here as your support system. Together, we’ll make sure you get the life with your dog that you dreamed of when you first brought them home.

Common Challenges We Help With:

Rescue dogs often come with unique fears and behaviors, especially those from stressful pasts. Some common issues we address include:

  • Leash Reactivity: Barking, lunging, or fearfulness toward other dogs or people.

  • Anxiety & Fearfulness: Hesitating in new places, avoiding certain people, or hiding.

  • Door Dashing: Running outside when the door opens.

  • Resource Guarding: Defending food, toys, or space from people or other pets.

  • Overstimulation: Jumping, mouthing, or struggling to settle down.

  • Confidence Building: Teaching trust, resilience, and calm responses to new situations.

How It Works

Compare Training Cost Options

1 Hour of Private Training (with Owner) – $200
One-on-one training to help you and your rescue dog build skills and confidence together. If you’re committed to working with your dog (we recommend 2 hours per day, 7 days a week), private training can be a great option.

Full Day of Day Training – $200
A full day of structured training focused on your dog's unique needs. Can include a free overnight stay (non-peak only, some blackout dates), valued at $75.

1-Week Board & Train
In rare cases, we offer shorter board & train stays, but one week is generally not enough for most rescue dogs to see real progress. Visit our 1-Week Board & Train page for details.

30-Day Board & Train
Our most recommended program for rescue dogs needing deep behavioral work. This immersive 4-week training experience provides structure, socialization, and professional guidance, ensuring lasting results.

💡 Planning a Spring Break or summer trip? Book early! Many owners schedule board & train while they’re away—this gives dogs training and care at almost the same cost as regular boarding, making it a great value.

Why Choose a Board & Train for Your Rescue Dog?

  • Faster, More Reliable Results – Daily professional training helps rescue dogs adjust and learn faster.

  • Confidence Building – Structured training helps nervous dogs feel safe and secure.

  • Full Immersion – Dogs learn in a distraction-free, supportive environment.

  • Owner Support & Training – We teach you how to continue reinforcing progress at home.

  • Convenience – Ideal if you’re traveling or need professional guidance to jumpstart training.

  • Long-Term Success – Early intervention prevents future behavioral struggles.
